If you know better “full service” wordpress hosting by all means share!
It solves a real problem for me (my EC2 micro instance was always locking up, didn’t have enough memory/CPU, and I didn’t keep up with security patches adequately). And it costs about the same as EC2+staticIP+persistent volume.
Spending time on sysadmin crap to save a few bucks is stupid for me to do.
wordpress.com is the obvious alternative but it’s a pretty different offering so hard to compare on price alone.
last I looked they had restrictions like no ads, only certain plugins, stuff like that. and I do have my own domain of course. but mostly I just didn’t bother with an exhaustive research project, I read some positive stuff about wpengine and tried it and it seemed to work.

Just wondering why you’re not using wordpress.com … its free unless you want your own domain with it
